A letter I've been meaning to write, news I've been dying to share...
A fresh start on an ever evolving perspective.
Before I picked up a camera, I picked up a pen.
Writing has always been my first creative language — and lately, I’ve been craving a space to share the once-silenced musings of that inner voice, in a way that stretches far beyond the limits of an Instagram caption.
As I move to quench that desire, I’ve been searching for a medium that invites more intention than the scroll, and connection more meaningful than a double-tap.
So here I am, starting something new.
This won’t be a newsletter in the traditional sense.
Think of it instead as a letter from your creative friend — someone searching for her way, her voice, and a fresh perspective. A dispatch that lands gently in your inbox, like a postcard from the edge of someplace beautiful.
It will offer a glimpse behind the picture-perfect curtain of creative production and instead share the honest mess of making — the in-between, the not-yet-polished, the almost-there. I hope you find in it words that linger, stories that inspire, and a gentle nudge toward your own wanderlust, creativity, and connection.
And this season, there’s so much I want to share.
First and foremost: I’m putting on my first gallery show — a dream that’s been quietly growing for years (and one I would love for you to support).
It’s called WANGDERFUL, and it celebrates the art of drag photography and the electric presence of drag performer and RuPaul’s Drag Race finalist, Minhi Wang. This body of work lives at the intersection of fantasy and truth — and it means the world to me.
It runs May 12th -31st and we’d love for you to join us on May 22nd, Minhi will be there live in person (and in drag!) with lots of extra surprises -we’ll be celebrating from 6 PM on May 22nd at Dimensions Gallery — 1626 Queen Street West.
But that’s just the beginning.
I’ll also be sharing the travel guides people have been asking for forever — not the kind you’ll find on Google, but filled with the hidden spots that stole my heart and the paths that taught me the most, as both a traveler and a citizen of the world.
And I’ll be opening up the creative process behind my photography and art practice — the mess, the magic, and everything in between.
My hope is to build something deeper.
To connect more. To reveal more.
Not just to grow an audience, but to build a community.
If you’re still reading this, I think you might be part of it.
Let’s see where this leads.
With love,
Barb
